Results of a preliminary experiment with the bowling and golf games of Wii Sports show the feasibility of playing Wii using robot-assisted wrist movements. A framework for planning robot joint trajectories capable of generating desired accelerometer measurements used by Wii games was developed using function optimization techniques. Toward this goal, the remote for Nintendopsilas Wii was integrated into the handle of the robot in an attempt to allow patients to play the high-quality yet affordable motion-based games that have been developed for the Wii. CRAMER is intended to engage patients in their rehabilitation therapy by having them play computer-based exercise games. With a parts and machining cost of less than $1500, this robot was designed to be inexpensive by using a simple parallel mechanism design and off-the-shelf hobby servomotors. The hands-free system in use is a part of a wider project (called "di Piazza in Piazza"), which comes with the initiatives of the University of Bologna, currently chosen to be displayed at the 2015 Universal Exposition in Milan (EXPO 2015).Ī robot called the Closed-chain Robot for Assisting in Manual Exercise and Rehabilitation (CRAMER) was developed to assist impaired persons in making three degree-of-freedom movements of the forearm and wrist (forearm supination/pronation, wrist flexion/extension, and wrist ulnar/radial deviation). In this paper we present and discuss our recent experience in designing, implementing and putting in practice a hands-free interactive technology which lets visitors explore a hyper-multimedia system, playing a role of those who are able to transform historical audio clips and videos into a piece of public culture which needs to be lived together on a public place. ![]() Thank to them, human beings can interact with, manipulate and in some circumstances even hack digital contents, playing an active role and becoming part of cultural performance exhibitions. One of the most interesting innovations introduced by modern game console technologies has been that of new interaction systems which allow a large amount of people to interact all together with cultural artifacts and exhibits.
